Planning on the 2012 Olympic Trials!

Posted by Kevin Doak on Tuesday at: 7:16pm (June 29th, 2010)

We are officially 2 years away from the 2012 Olympic U.S.A. Swimming Team Trials! I've decided to compete once again at the trials as I did in 2008. The time standards have not been released yet however, I have a goal time below the fastest I could even conceive them setting the cutoff at.

Last time around it was a bit of a rushed effort. I set my goal 2 years out but I was in a much different place in my training and unsure as to what it would take to make the cut. This time, I've swam in the Olympic Trials and I know what I need to do to get there again. I plan on putting 24 months of training in to achieve my goal.

I have a very specific time goal in mind but I won't be sharing with the world just yet. I'll simply leave you with the following:

I swam a 57.00 with a Speedo LZR Full Body Tech Suit shaved and tapered at OSU in the 100 Back
I swam a 58.40 with a Speedo FS-Pro Jammer unshaved, untapered at IUPUI in the 100 Back

I plan on beating both times in a speedo brief suit prior to the Olympic Trials in June 2012.

I've set a very lofty goal for myself. Unfortunately I have limited resources to accomplish it. I haven't found a coach that wants to train me, and I don't have a local pool which would allow training to easily fit in my day. I will overcome these obstacles and achieve my goal.
