World Record Certificates Arrived!

Posted by Kevin Doak on Friday at: 6:54pm (January 15th, 2010)
I was quite excited about this one. I received a large envelope from United States Masters Swimming this afternoon. Inside were two certificates for the world records set in August 2009!

The first is my 50 Backstroke LCM record of 26.64, I just barely got the World Record which was previously held by Martin Harris from the UK. Martin's held the record for 15 years! He set the record 06/05/1994 at a 26.68. I'm very proud that I broke the record wearing a speedo brief suit and no cap. I believe this signifies that I most likely was equipped with the same technology as Martin was in 1994. In a time when technology has infiltrated the sport, this means a lot to me personally.

Next was the World Record in the 200 Medley Relay LCM. I was overwhelmed with excitement when we got this record, it was an amazing feeling! Since I'm holding the certificate, it indeed counted at some point. Unfortunately for us, a team from Germany swam 0.35 seconds faster on 06/14/2009. The team of: Harald Maisch, Reiner Schneider, Christoph Schonleber and Pual Alexander Kutscher swam the race in 1:45.88. Our time of 1:46.23 was probably submitted before theirs and so ours counted long enough for them to print the World Record Certificate. However, their time is faster, which makes me wonder if we ever really held the World Record in the event. It seems like we probably didn't. Since they swam faster in June, our slower time in August wasn't technically the fastest 4 guys with a combined age of 120-159 swam it. I still say we can go faster, I hope we have another shot!
