Refreshing

Posted by Kevin Doak on Wednesday at: 9:01pm (September 8th, 2010)

There's something refreshing about being around college kids at the beginning of a school year.  Just such high hopes, everybody is smiling and excited for the season to start, lots of positive energy!

I dropped by EMU to swim with another alumni.  EMU record holder Justin Griggs was in attendance as well.  We were the only three in the pool the entire time.  Although we were doing different workouts, at one point we were all swimming freestyle side by side and I realized for a moment that we were all MAC champions at one point or another.  Just sort of a cool feeling.  I really enjoy talking with Justin.  He's got a great mind for alternate training methods.  Today he was discussing "zoomers"... basically a short set of swimming fins.  His feeling was that zoomers allow you to maintain a more natural kick rhythm rather than using large fins which slow down your kicks.  I just never hear most swimmers discuss issues like these.  I appreciate his input.
