49th in the Nation!

As the U.S. World Champ Trials continues in Indianapolis, it's still sinking in that I was a part of it. My feelings about the meet have changed for the better over the last few days.

A few minutes ago I remembered that this meet was also the U.S. Nationals. This means that 52 backstrokers in the United States of America qualified for the meet and chose to attend. I placed 49th out of 52, and while that doesn't sound all that impressive, it means I'm ranked as the 49th fastest backstroker in the country without resting, shaving or tapering. I'm proud of that.

I never set out to be #1. I just happen to love swimming and continue to train hard. While I have many passions in my life, it's this sport I'm most passionate about. I'm very proud to even be ranked among all the great athletes that attended this meet. Although there are literally still SECONDS between me and #1, it blows me away that I'm that close to being a top level athlete in this sport while maintaining a normal social and work life.
