Health Rundown

Posted by Kevin Doak on Sunday at: 2:47pm (June 7th, 2009)
As much as I like sharing my swimming experiences with friends and family, this blog is also a great tool for me to keep track of my training and health. Here's a little health rundown:

Sickness
I can't remember the last time I was sick. I was racking my brain earlier today. Going through the milestones in my life... I know I haven't been sick since college (6+ years). I don't remember a single time in College (10+ years). And it gets a little blurry around my high school years, but not one time stands out in my mind. I remember taking a day off school here and there for being overtired but never for being sick.

It was actually a good opportunity to call my parents and catch up. Apparently I had a mild case of chicken pox before I was 6. Although it's hard to believe I've gone 22 years without getting sick, it might actually be the truth. Kinda spooky

Joints/Tendons/Ligaments
My left elbow is vastly improved but still not 100%. My right ankle only took a day to heal. My left knee gets a little sore sometimes when I do a ton of kicking in the pool. My left shoulder still has some weird pain when I do more than 400 Freestyle fast but it's always been that way. Overall, I haven't had any problems with the new workload of P90X, swimming 6 times a week and doing 6,000+ meters a day.

Muscles
I have a few days a week which are pretty rough on my muscles. The "Legs/Back" days are great for my training but usually leave me so sore that it's tough to get out of my car or walk correctly!

Overall Health
I'm almost always tired, the workload I've undertaken is a massive increase over the last few years. I've noticed some positive visual changes in my body. Certainly nothing groundbreaking, but it seems like my muscles are a little more defined. I always wonder if it's one of those situations where since I'm working out so much more, my brain tells me there should be changes, so I see them whether they're there or not. Not like it really matters, I'm feeling great in the water and all the body weight exercises seem to be helping with my balance and flexibility.

Thanks for reading.
