6,100 Long Course Meters!

Posted by Kevin Doak on Friday at: 4:45am (May 1st, 2009)
I had a chance to swim with the summer workout group at EMU this evening. I knew they would be swimming at least 5,000 so I was mentally prepared when I read 6,100. The group was small because the college is between sessions, there were 7 people there. I'm confident there will be many more in the coming weeks.

The practice itself was challenging, a dynamic mix of freetyle, IM and kicking. I held my own for about 3,500 meters, which is my typical practice distance. The rest of the practice was difficult because I attempted to swim backstroke during the main set while everybody was doing freestyle. Since freestyle intervals are faster, I knew it would be tough. Once the intervals got down to the 1:20 for 100 meters I ended up missing it and falling back to 1:30. I know I can hold sub 1:20's if I'm ready for it but it was my first day back in the pool after 3 days off. I look forward to dropping in on another summer EMU practice!
