14Great Day to Start New!

I've enjoyed a fairly relaxed 2 weeks of training. I had been working hard to prepare for the Michigan Masters State Meet in late March so I was due for a little breather. The holiday resulted in some pool closures at EMU which forced me to take 3 days off. I've learned this really makes me miss it as part of my daily routine. The exercise makes a great day feel even better!
Today I entered the pool area to find that they have switched over to LCM (Long Course Meters) for the summer! Even though I despise the long course, it was a welcomed change of pace. I felt awkward swimming because of taking a few days off, it's surprising how quickly I lose my feel for the water. I had a fairly quick 100's kicking set, holding 1:28's long course, followed by my no-equipment pulling set holding my 100's on the 1:26's. I finished my practice with two 100 backstrokes all out, the first one I touched in a 1:05 low. It was probably a 1:04 high because it took me a split second to turn around. We'll call it a 1:05, which is still the fastest I've ever gone in practice. Weeks before the Olympic Trials I was holding 1:06's. I followed the first with another 1:05 high but it HURT! I left practice feeling great about my performances, I look forward to some long course meets!
