Too much stretching

Posted by Kevin Doak on Thursday at: 1:34am (March 12th, 2009)
Due to work commitments I was forced to take Tuesday off from the pool. I tried making up for it by doing dryland, stretching and weights at home. I made the mistake of stretching too hard in the evening. I didn't notice till I woke up today and could barely walk. Seems like I damaged the muscles on the backside of my leg, opposite my kneecap. I'm positive it isn't the joint and therefore not serious. I just need to take it easy while walking and training for a little bit.

I decided to train with the Ann Arbor Masters team again today. We swam 4,300 yards at the Mac pool. It's a great workout group. Always a great turnout and everybody trains hard. The coach for the day was Rodolpho Palma. I know I'm not alone when I say I think he's a fantastic masters coach. He takes time to critique swimmers strokes and offer words of encouragement. I appreciate his time and help. We had a diverse workout incorporating some IM, kicking and #1 stroke. I finished the practice with a 100 Free all out. I had held :58's through the entire workout, but my final 100 free was only a :54... not very impressive for me considering my best is a :46. I doubt missing lunch and my knee issue helped at all.

I'm glad this knee injury happened when it did, I think I have time to heal before the state meet.
