100 Back and 100 Free Time Trial

Posted by Kevin Doak on Sunday at: 6:37am (December 6th, 2009)
A friendly challenge from Tim led me to time trial a 100 Back on Friday night. I was really sore from overlifting on Thursday so I knew it wouldn't be very glorious. I swam a short warmup and jumped in at the end of the night session for the time trial. As soon as I began underwater kicking I could tell that it wasn't going to be pretty... I just felt lethargic, just not moving as fast as I should have been. I touched the wall in a very disappointing 52.64. I literally laughed out loud when I saw the clock. A 52.xx swim is on par with my Junior year of HIGH SCHOOL... or around the same time I was learning how to spell my own name. To further put in perspective I was a 49.50 at this time last year, at this meet. I was a 50.2 from a PUSH 6 months ago. I was a 52.5 during a Saturday practice a month ago. As you can probably tell, I was disappointed with my swim. It's further motivation to train and improve though.

Today my friend Sam let me know that he would only time trial if I did. After such a horrible in the 100 Back the day prior, I wasn't very motivated to embarrass myself any further. However, I was equally motivated to show myself that I was better than a 52.xx in a 100 back. I decided to swim a 100 Freestyle against his 100 Breaststroke for a solid advantage :) I actually had a decent swim, nothing to brag about, but I touched in a 47.31. At this point I was just hoping to break a 49.00. The video shows some poor turns and too much breathing, but other than that, I'm satisfied with my sore, tired performance. Videos are posted on the video page. I had my personal staff photographer onsite as well. Thanks for the pictures!
