Oh Yea...

And Michael Phelps won 8 Gold Medals at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games

He's been quoted as saying "I wanted to change swimming". Don't get me wrong, I admire his accomplishments and I think he's shown he's a great competitor, I just don't understand how his performances have changed swimming. He's achieved so much, that much is obvious. He put the world's eyes on swimming for a brief moment in time as we all watched and waited to see if he could win 8 gold medals. I'm just still wondering how the fact that he is now the most decorated Olympic athlete ever really "changes" the sport. Perhaps I don't realize what needs to be changed, I never realized there was anything wrong with swimming in the first place. One of the many reasons why so many world records were broken during these Olympics could be attributed to new suit technology, which changed competitive swimming. I'm not sure if it was a good change or not. It allowed swimmers to go faster at competitions, that's confirmed. In the end, I think it just costs teams more money on suits.

Overall, I'm proud of all of our Olympians, I wish the accomplishments of one athlete hadn't taken so much focus off of all the others performing during these Olympics. Congrats to our 2008 Olympic Team!
