First practice back in Michigan

It feels good to be back! I had my first practice back at EMU today. I had planned on doing weights but work got in the way, I did some dryland to make up for it. I will do weights tomorrow instead.

I've been thinking of my next goal. I'm excited to think that I can accomplish whatever I set my mind to do. For the next month in practice, I will do a typical warm up and then do nothing but kick sets. I feel my kick is very poor and I finally have time to experiment with some new workouts I've been thinking of.

Today in the pool I tried something I picked up from former EMU swimmer Mike Holtz. A few months back he was telling me about some training he did while trying out for the Navy Seals. It involved using scuba fins (very long fins). I didn't have scuba fins so I just used my normal swim fins. I chose to do a set of 10x50m on 15 seconds rest, I kept my legs straight and did scissor kicks to the maximum range of motion comfortable and alternated sides at the 25m mark. I was moving very slow but I could tell it is working my legs very well. I will continue to do this set and see if it helps me.

I also did a kick set of 4 x (100 moderate @ 2:00 +2 x 50 fast @1:00)
