LZR fits and backstroke start works

Posted by Kevin Doak on Saturday at: 6:47pm (June 28th, 2008)
I had a chance to try on my LZR suit and did another 500 meters. The suit is definitely tight. They told me I should be wearing a "Small Long" style full body suit, but I chose a "Small" due to the fact I thought the small long was channeling water down my chest area. These suits are very difficult to put on. It takes me a frustrating 10 minutes to get in it and adjust all the panels to the right parts of my body. No matter if it's sized right, this suit would make anybody feel like they could lose a few pounds, it fits very snug. I did 3 starts using my new method of my backstroke start. I'll put it this way... The start will work. I'm not a big fan of the style, but I don't slip on the Omega pads at all.

I asked a swimmer standing next to the pool to take my picture and introduced myself. His name is Nicholas Tobler from Hilltop Aquatics, he's swimming the 100 and 200 Breast. He looked about my age and we had a quick talk about swimming post college. It turns out he's 26, married with a 1 year old child. I give him a lot of credit, he's balancing even more than me, along with swimming at this level! I'll be watching for his races and rooting on my new friend.

I'm done swimming for the day, when I left the pool and pool deck were almost empty. I'm headed to go get some food and I'll return around 3pm to buy a Trials shirt when the store opens. I also will attend a "coaches meeting" at 4pm in the conference center to make sure I'm not missing any important information.

I noticed some strange looking devices on the pool deck, they have high compression hoses and electronics plugged into them. The top of them look like a nozzle and dual ignitors... I'm willing to bet that they have some pyrotechnics planned for the Olympic Trials! I also noticed a bunch of blue "diving bricks". I remember using these when I was a kid in brighton pool, they weigh about 10 lbs, you throw them in the deep end and dive down and retrieve them. The difference with these were that they had little cameras attached to them. I saw probably 30 of them lined up in a hallway. I think they will be using these to record underwater video. Which reminds me. The pool is much clearer than when I was here a month ago. You can see about 20 meters underwater now. It was almost zero visability a few weeks ago for the swimvitational. That's all for now, food time, thanks for reading!
