Exercise Thoughts

It's going to be a tough weekend to practice, there's a CW meet at EMU all weekend with no other available open swim hours. These are the types of difficulties I'll be living with till I finish building my own olympic size pool.

I stopped in to visit my friends Paul and Mary Jo today (great family by the way). Something Mary Jo said to her son impressed me. She had just returned from a tough bike ride and she looked at her son and said "what are you doing today for exercise". I feel like this is the type of expectation all people should have regarding their physical health and the health of their families. It's a method of thought that I've been considering over the past few months after hearing somebody mention that the key to their good health was "elevating my heart rate once a day". It's so simple yet so overlooked. I'm certainly not the first one to think of this, but it's a good message to spread.

So I'd say we have two levels of thought here. Some people exercise semi-regularly so to get yourself in better health, a good question to ask yourself is "what are you doing today for exercise"

For those who need a good jump start into exercising, a simple beginning would be "elevate your heart rate once a day". This could be done with a variety of easy workouts, even a brisk walk or some sit ups. Anything done once a day for a short period of time is a great start.

I will consider both of those quotes today. I'm going to try swim for two hours if I can get some pool time. Otherwise, I'm going to go for a run on a nearby path and do some dryland and weight training from my apartment. Have a great weekend! I'm headed to Panera for some bagels :)
