2008 Michigan Masters State Meet (Day 1)

Posted by Kevin Doak on Sunday at: 1:26am (April 20th, 2008)

Today I competed in the 2008 Michigan Masters State Meet Day 1.

Morning Session:

The morning session went well with a best time since college in the 200 Backstroke of 1:53.44. I held back during this event because I was going against a fast swimmer in the 50 Fly. The 200 back time broke the state record by over 3 seconds (was a 1:56:60). The 50 Fly was a little rough due to the fact I was tired from the 200 back. I had a decent time of 23.09, however my best is 22.64. I anchored the 200 free relay at the end of the morning session with a solid 20.83. Due to a bad relay start, this was a very slow reaction time. I'm confident I can break a 21.00 in the 50 Free tomorrow. It was great to be a part of "RAYS" swim team this weekend, they offered some great support (and food!).

Evening Session:

The evening session went great. I had an opportunity to get my 50 backstroke SCY National Record back by beating the current record broken last week of 23.03. I had a decent race and BARELY broke the National Record with a 23.01. It was exciting only because I consider this my best event. This national record marks my 8th National Record in 5 months. I was awarded the "Michigan Masters Laurence Award" for "Outstanding Performances in Masters Swimming Competition".

My last event of the day was the 50 fly within the 200 Medley Relay, I'm not sure what my split was due to a timing error. Overall it was a great day.
