I had a chance to swim in the (Former) International Swimming Hall of Fame Pool, now renamed to: "Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Complex". I've been part of 4 swim meets here, one each year I was swimming with Eastern Michigan University. We trained in Fort Lauderdale each holiday break to escape the cold weather and have some semi-vacation time while getting our butts kicked in practice. The pool was mostly empty when I got in because the college teams had just finished up. I caught up with the coach of Team FLA, a masters team that trains there. They have 4 (!!!!) practices a day available to them, they had 7 people per lane in a 10 lane long course pool. I'm jealous they have such a strong masters program here. It was a beautiful day to train, I wore my ultra tint goggles for swimming backstroke while staring up at the sun. I created a few pairs of these goggles while at the International Santa Clara Invitational in May 08 using a few layers of 50% automotive window tint.
I had a good 3,000 yard practice and quite a few sub 1:00 100yard backstroke sprints getting down to 55 seconds. I also did quite a bit of kicking for a well rounded practice. I was sure to finish out the day with some solid beach relaxing. What a wonderful place to train outdoors.
