After the day off

Posted by Kevin Doak on Thursday at: 3:19am (October 23rd, 2008)
I took Tuesday off to recover a little. I was back in the pool tonight to squeeze in 3,000 yards before the EMU meet. I did some fast 100's and fast 50's. My 100's were all under 1:00 with less than 30 seconds rest. The 50's were around 24-25 seconds. I'm satisfied with my performances but I can't say I really felt rested after a full day off. I'm excited to visit some friends in Indianapolis this weekend and compete in the TYR Grand Prix series meet at IUPUI. I have been practicing some IM drills to prepare myself for the 100 IM SCM I'll do this weekend. As I've mentioned before I want to achieve a lifetime best in every event I swim within the next 12 months. The next three meets are almost my only chance to better my times in the SCM (Short Course Meters) events. I had my best 100 IM ever last year at the IUPUI meet. My best time was a 59.77 last year. My 100 IM SCY (Short Course Yards) from 2 weeks ago (a 52.63) converts into a 58.73! A full second faster than my time last year at this time! I really want to focus on my 50 Back and 100 IM to get those out of the way and be able to go after my other events effectively. However, I know myself and I'll go all out on everything and just hope for the best. One of my other goals over the next 3 SCM meets is to break the Masters World Record in the 50 Back. I was 0.10 seconds away last year at the Chicago meet (december 07). I know I can do it, I just need a good start and a great turn. I have the speed. I'm looking for a 24 second 50 Backstroke. My best time is a 25.15 and the world record is a 25.05. Time to do some weights.
