Friday and Saturday were ROUGH
Friday and Saturday were ROUGH
Based on how my shoulders were feeling, I shouldn't have swam Friday. From all the IM stuff we did this week, my right shoulder was in some significant pain. I got through 80% of the workout Friday and ended up kicking 1,000 meters instead of swimming the pre-main set with the team. I opted to do an "Animal Kick" which is 10x100's on the SCY 1:30 best average. Since this was LCM I inquired upon coach as to what the sendoff should be, he replied "1:30".... I laughed, as did a few other swimmers. For those not in the sport, Short Course Yards (SCY) and Long Course Meters (LCM) intervals are not compatible, they need to be adjusted since it takes longer for ANY swimmer to swim 10% more distance in addition to the missing flipturns.
I decided to try the 1:40 interval, I knew it would be tough.
I made the first 3 or so on the 1:37, continuing to get closer to the 1:40 each time... 1:38, 1:38, 1:39... 1:40, by the 7th one I had to take an extra 10 seconds rest because I was MAKING them on the 1:40 and the interval was the 1:40. I think I ended up averaging a 1:41 and pretty much swam a 1,000 meter kick all out. Probably not the most productive kick set ever, but it was a good workout.
I finished up Friday with the team.
I should have taken Saturday off as well, I was short on sleep and my right shoulder felt like it was gonna fall off entirely. I'm pretty sure I fell asleep at some point swimming warmup. My body just kept doing what it was doing, breathing, swimming, but I was kinda out of it. I remember falling asleep swimming in college too. It's sort of a crazy thought, but it happens.
Our main set Saturday was:
4x100's Free on 3:00 Dive MAX
8x50's Stroke on 1:30 Dive MAX
I was holding 1:07's on the Free and descended from 35's to a 31.5 on the 50's backstroke
I ate so much food Friday night it was staggering. I ate POUNDS of food, and I loved every second of it. I'm feeling great in the pool overall, I'm faster each day and I'm proud of what I'm already accomplishing in my training!
