Overloaded
Been slacking bigtime regarding training. Been working 16+ hours a day and can't seem to make the time to swim. Gotta get back on track...
Doak vs Silly Rules
I spoke with Peter Linn about the chances of training with EMU's team this year. EMU's athletic department is not in favor of that occurring for reasons unknown to humanity and intelligent thought. As I read the NCAA rule book, you may train at the university you attended, it happens at pretty much every other university. The days I find myself in Ypsilanti I will be exploiting a blatant loophole in NCAA rules. Since there are always open Recreation lanes during EMU's practice, you might find me swimming in the lane right next to EMU.
Back from Chicago
I had a chance to spend some time in Chicago the past week or so. I never had a chance to track down a pool though. My hotel had a 15 yard one on the 42nd floor but I ended up just doing dryland and weights a few times to hold me over till I got back.
Overall it was a great trip but glad to be back training! I felt awkward in the water today but it felt good to get a solid workout in after so many days off.

Aiming for early December
I'm aiming for early December as my next taper meet. I don't have the specifics yet, but a friend mentioned attending the 2010 USA Short Course Nationals in Columbus. Initially it sounded ok but I was drawn in even more when he mentioned that the meet was SCY the first 3 days and they were running LCM time trials on the last day (Sunday)! That means I can try for some times in Short Course Yards and utilize my same taper for a few Long Course Meters races the last day! This type of meet setup is untypical yet makes so much sense as long

:59's LCM 100 Backstroke with Fins
I had a great 3,000 meter practice and ended it with back to back 100's LCM with fins. My goal was to swim a few race pace 100's backstroke to feel a sub 1:00 race. I really thought I could squeak out a fantastic time, maybe under my best time of :57.00. I started out with a butterfly kick and touched at a 1:06. My second one was a backstroke and clocked in at :59.xx. I was disappointed that a :59.xx was the fastest I could muster. I told myself I could do better, I took a full minute rest and tried again.

Moving Forward with a Vegetarian Diet
For the last 3 months, I've been slowly moving toward an entirely Vegetarian diet. I really dislike people who preach about their diet constantly so I'll attempt to make this brief.
Let me start by saying: I love a good hamburger or steak just as much as the next person. I'm just becoming more aware of where my food comes from.
Descended to 1:06 Back LCM
I had a decent set of 100's LCM Backstroke today and descended the last one to a 1:06. Not too shabby of a time for me during practice from a push. I feel like I'm slowly making progress!

Refreshing
There's something refreshing about being around college kids at the beginning of a school year. Just such high hopes, everybody is smiling and excited for the season to start, lots of positive energy!

11 Pounds Down!
15 weeks 7 hours ago I was 180.4 pounds AFTER a workout. Yesterday I was 169.4 pounds!
You're probably thinking, why the heck do you have that figured out so specifically. In reality, I don't, I just made a little table that pulls all my weights from my blog posts:

I'm feeling great and training well!
First Day Back at EMU
After a week of downtime at EMU, they opened the pool back up for two hours tonight. I was the first person on deck when the doors opened. I dove in and within minutes, at least 20 members of the EMU team wandered on the pool deck, all hoping to get in a little swimming before their season starts later this week. It was kind of fun to be surrounded by silly college kids, I could compare it to a glorified pool party more than a practice. I found it funny that not a single one joined my lane, either because I was weird, smelled funny or there w

Olympic Trial Cuts have been released!
I was excited to hear from another EMU alumni on Saturday morning that the Olympic Trial cuts had been released. I grabbed a computer as soon as I could to see what we were all up against!
In short, only 3 cuts are now faster, 2 of which I'm aiming for. The 100 Back and the 100 Fly. Here are the comparisons:
2008 - 100 Back: 57.99
2012 - 100 Back: 57.59
2008 - 100 Fly: 55.59
2012 - 100 Fly: 55.29

Kick half the practice
I was over at a community pool this week since EMU was closed down for maintenance all week. A respected coach made a few friendly/sarcastic remarks to me regarding how much I was kicking. Over the course of an hour, each time he came out of his office, apparently I was in the middle of a kick set.
