It was one of the craziest practice's ever. It started out with a bad attitude. I was looking for any reason to get out of that pool. About 2,000 meters into the practice I was feeling shakey. Now honestly, I'm not really sure if I was really shakey or if I was just making up a reason to get out. The fact that I really hadn't eaten much during the day was further proof to myself that I needed to remedy the situation immediately.
I ended up getting out in the middle of a set, quickly inquiring if anybody had any money to buy some food at the concession stand... no dice. I felt I had an option to either send myself home right then, or get some food with the money all the way in my car 1/4 mile away. I chose option 2. I threw on some shorts, a shirt and some running shoes and booked it to my car (running). I could tell the coaching staff was not amused. I however thought the whole thing was fairly ridiculous/idiotic... and therefore funny.
I got to my car and grabbed some money. Now... the concession stand typically has some pretty sad selections ever since "Bill" retired, he kept that place stocked full of good stuff. I felt I was better off going to the student center where they have a variety of food, some borderline healthy stuff like Subway. When I got inside I saw that EVERYTHING was closed except Wendy's. Not a good thing. On top of the fact I didn't think Wendy's was the best food to swim with right after eating, I'm really trying to eliminate fast food from my diet entirely.
I had no other good options so I ordered a 1/4 pounder and some nuggets. A rational person would have gotten something small. I was starving. The entire time walking back to the pool I considered the fact that I might just yak this up in a few minutes. Luckily I'm not a puker, and that's probably a good thing. I scarfed the burger and nuggets just in time to walk back into the pool, strip off the shorts and shirt, grab my goggles and dive back in the pool. I think I only missed about 1,000 Meters total. I got some pretty weird looks from the other swimmers.
I ended up having a great finish to the workout! I lead all but 400 meters of the 3,000 meter backstroke set and it felt great. I just fell apart at the end a bit but I'm improving.
I haven't been in the weight room all week but I've hit all 4 days of practices. My shoulders were fine till I did some Fly and Breastroke the other day, now I'm hurting a bit. My backstroke is feeling great. I'm choosing to do backstroke on almost every set I can, I find I hurt my shoulders less and I enjoy practice more.
