Brief Club Pool Practice
Brief Club Pool Practice
I was short on time and with a 3 day meet in the Jones Natatorium, the Club Pool was my only option for a workout.
The Club Pool was built in the 70's and I'm sure it was state of the Art at the time. Its a 25 yard 6 lane pool. Its really like the bare minimum for a regulation pool, its 12 feet deep at one end to accommodate the diving boards that were once installed. The old school blue plastic starting blocks are still intact and installed. Other than that all the original competition features have been removed. The stands have been removed along with the entire balcony area. Its all been blocked off by a cinder block wall from floor to ceiling. The area behind the blocks has been converted into a large modern hot tub and a sauna has been added. Huge fruity colored banners have been hung from the ceiling to spice things up in there, they keep the water nice and warm for water aerobic classes.
Looking around, its tough to believe this colorful dinky pool was the site of at least one Mid-American Conference Championship meet.
I only got in 2,000 yards but I made it count with a fast kick set followed by a fast pull set. I finished up with an all out 50 back, touching in a high 24 or so.
Although not an ideal practice, it was better than nothing. I'm glad I made it count
I'm definitely getting a gym membership, more on that later
