4,300 Yards

Most swimmers would agree that 4,300 yards really isn't anything to brag about. However, this distance represents one of my longest practices in memory. I typically swim a quick 3,000 yards and call it a day due to a rushed schedule. Today being a Sunday, I made time to spend a little longer in the pool. It's been difficult to find open pools with all the holiday closings. I literally couldn't find a single place to train yesterday, hence the Sunday practice.

I had a few solid sets. Nothing worth noting other than a few 100's backstroke at the end of practice. From a push, tired:

0:58
0:56

Really not too shabby considering how out of shape I am. I really hope I'm around a :50.xx next week at Lake Orion. I typically swim well there, but this will be my least prepared performance at this particular meet. My last meet at Lake Orion in March 2009, I swam a 49.84 and set a pool and State Masters Record. I missed the National Record by just 0.01 seconds apparently. I don't think I'll swim nearly that fast anytime soon, but I've got a solid week to get ready to race!

I stepped on the scale today before practice and saw 178.8, after practice I was 177.7. I haven't seen a weight drop since I started training a month and a half ago. It's a little discouraging but I know it will come. To reiterate, I don't feel like I NEED to lose weight, I just know I can be 5-10 lbs lighter, swim faster and feel healthier. All in good time...
