48x50's long course and TIM EVERETT returns!

Posted by Kevin Doak on Thursday at: 12:20am (June 18th, 2009)
Today I was excited to see the return of a great Eastern Michigan University athlete. A swimmer by the name of Tim Everett returned for the summer from the University of Chicago where he transferred last year to pursue a degree in Political Science. When I talk about Tim, I'm proud to say we attended the same college. He's a great teammate, a skilled swimmer and an all around good person with a very bright future. I was happy to hear he will be training with the workout group at EMU. As a fellow backstroker, Tim will push me each day in practice. Glad to have you back Tim!

Today we swam a challenging long course main set that was comprised of:

3 times through:
16x50's (Evens easy freestyle on :50, Odds fast Stroke on 1:00)
1:00 rest between sets

I think I'm well suited for a set like this. Quick 50's fast with a minute or so of easy swimming is right up my alley. I wish I could say I was faster than the :32-:34's range I was holding but it was all I could muster up today. I finished the last set of 16x50's with the last 5 of them being below :32 seconds. The last 3 were all :30.x which was respectable. I should be down in the :29's on a set like this but I'll get there someday soon.

I'm looking forward to competing at the outdoor meet at Michigan State University on June 28th. It's a fun, low profile, outdoor long course Masters meet for charity. I'll probably only do the 50 free, 50 back and 100 back. I first swam the meet in 2007 and missed 2008 because it was the weekend before Olympic Trials. I'm looking forward to swimming a meet outdoors again!
