I'm really enjoying practicing with a team. I'm pushed on every single set. A feeling I haven't experienced since college swimming ended in 2003 for me. I have a few thank you's today!
First, A Wayne State University swimmer named Sebastian Rzepa joined the group a few weeks ago. He's a 50/100/200 Freestyle swimmer. It's been really nice having somebody faster than me in the pool. A great change from swimming all by myself. Sebastian can beat me 10 out of 10 swims in freestyle and pushes me to better myself each time. I really appreciate having him in the lane next to me. Thank you Sebastian for pushing me!
The second Thank you goes out to Lori Morton. She's been with the group for about a week. She is a swimmer at U of M. I've only swam against her a few times, but each time I'm challenged to stay ahead of her. She is one of the fastest kickers I've ever seen. I don't have any rock solid numbers on her but she's FAST. I consider myself a better than average kicker, and all things being equal, I can bust out some really fast 100's Kick. Most times faster than anybody else in the pool. Yesterday I had to give it everything I had to keep ahead of Lori on a kick set of 200's. Today we did 2x100's on the 1:50 long course, then 2x100's on the 1:45 followed by 1x100 ALL OUT on the 2:00. I was right next to Lori the whole set, when the fast one came, I felt like all I had to do was rev it up and I could touch her out. We pushed off and she was right there with me, at the 50 meter mark I had a 3 meter lead. I ran out of steam and she BLEW past me and probably beat me by a solid 3-4 seconds. It was a very humbling experience and I appreciated every second of it! Thank you Lori for showing me what's possible!
There are some very fast swimmers as part of this group and I'm lucky to have some of them pushing me. Thanks to everybody I swim with!
