12 Month Goal Progress

Posted by Kevin Doak on Wednesday at: 7:09pm (February 11th, 2009)
I set a goal on October 5th 2009 to break every single Lifetime Best Time I had ever achieved in every event I've swum in the last 3 years. This goal covers 23 events and 3 courses (SCY, SCM, LCM). It is a lofty goal and will be very difficult.

I have achieved 9 Lifetime Best Times out of 23. I'm already really proud of myself, I'm working harder than ever and swimming faster than ever. However, I still have some really tough swims ahead of me in the next few months. Right now I'm focusing on just SCY and SCM meets because it's still a little too early in the year to go to LCM meets. Here are the events that I need to focus on:

50 Back SCY - 22.22
This will be really tough, my fastest recent time of 23.01 is still lightyears away from a low 22 second swim. I think my only option will be to have a GREAT turn and underwater kicking.

100 Back SCY - 48.51
I'm closer than I thought I would be at this point, I was 49.50 in December, less than a second away. I still have a long way to go, but I'm in good shape to break into the 48's during the state meet in late March.

200 Back SCY- 1:50.09
This will be very hard. I need to drop 3 seconds, and I don't do the type of training it will require to achieve a 3 second drop. I need to change my training if I ever hope to be this fast again.

50 Free SCY - 20.95
I got this no problem. One good swim is all it takes, I was a 20.98 in December and a 23.30 SCM which is a 20.87 yards. I'm not worried about this event

50 Breast SCY - 30.69
This is kind of a waste of time, I should go faster than a 30 second swim right now, I will get this one no problem.

100 Free SCM - 51.75
This was actually a really good swim, a 46.36 converted yards. I need a good tapered swim to get this.

50 Back SCM - 25.15
This is gonna be tough but not impossible, it's a 22.53 converted so I gotta be MOVIN'. I think a good turn and underwater will get me there. 25.05 is the Masters World Record.

100 Back SCM - 55.65
It's gonna take a shave and a taper to get this one, it's a 49.86 converted, tough, but not impossible.

The Long Course Meters swims are a whole different story but I'm not thinking about those. I need to stay focused on my SCY and SCM swims. I really do believe I can clear all these out in the next few months. It's exciting to think that I'll soon be able to say that I'm the fastest swimmer I have EVER been at the age of 28!
