First Ever!

Tonight I negative split an athletic performance for the first time in my life!

Brace yourself, I'm gonna throw some big phrases at you:

I'm very sure I've never "brought it home" faster than I've "taken it out". Every single race or practice I've ever done has been "going all out" and just "hanging on for dear life" till the end of the race. Tonight, for some reason I took it out fairly fast, pushing it a little the first lap around my neighborhood, but once I finished that first lap I poured on the speed. I used my "sportcount" finger timer that I bought last year when I started getting more serious about my swimming, it's a fantastic little device for self coached swimmers. More on that later. Anyway, I took out the first lap in 7:11 and was pleasantly surprised to see 14:04 when I finished the 2nd lap. That put me at... (go go gadget math skills) a 6:53 and effectively dropping 18 seconds! I really lengthened my stride and utilized these lanky legs for something. I barely broke a sweat so I know I have lots of improving to do still, but I'm proud of how far I've come in a few weeks of running!

It was raining for hours before I started running, it stopped just before my run and started to downpour 15 minutes after my run... funny how everything always works out.

I bought this little beauty a year ago, I've used it quite a few times when I need to get my own splits. I ordered it from www.swimoutlet.com for $20.95 plus $4.99 shipping but I can't find it in their inventory now. Here is the manufacturers website: www.sportcount.com. They have a few different models but i only needed a stopwatch not a lap timer. It's a great little toy, you can time almost anything with it... almost.

I'm going to finish up my weights now. Somehow I squeezed in a full business day around 3,000 Long Course Meter swim, a 1.5 mile run and a full weight workout! I saw a woman running today and she had an incrediblely long stride, she was absolutely hauling. I actually caught myself saying "wow, that's incredible". I really admired her speed and form, it was impressive!
