9No more deadline!

I'm happy to have the time to try some new things in the pool. For the last few years I've been feeling the pressure of the 2008 trials deadline. It was a slow ramp up in yardage and intensity in my workouts. I feel relieved to have it over with and have the freedom to try some new workouts. I have to tell you, I'm the most excited about being able to rollerblade again! It was something I haven't done for quite some time for fear of injuring myself. Now I don't have to worry about it so much.
Now that I have some baseline training I think it's important to establish some benchmarks to keep track of my progress. By studying my most recent meets, I've decided I can do a much better job kicking during both my 50 free and my 100 back. This prompted me to try something new for the next 2 months. I will continue to warm up as normal which includes about 1,500 meters of Swimming, Kicking and Pulling. However, after warmup, I will be focusing on nothing but kicking drills and sets. I think I can be a much better kicker by only focusing on my kick during most practices. I will certainly keep typical full body sets in my regiment, but I want to see what this will do for me. I started today, I did about 2,200 meters of kick sets after warmup. The next step is to choose a benchmarking set so I can start to track my progress. This will be interesting!
