I got a call from my friend Sarah who coaches Travis Pointe Country Club in Ann Arbor this morning telling me they were one person short for their coaches relay in Milan. Luckily I could break away from work for a bit to come to the rescue. (I make it sound urgent, chances are they would have just asked somebody else!)
I got there just in the nick of time to hop in and do a 100 warmup. The coaches relay is a 200 Free Relay. They chose to have me lead off the relay. Most of the kids stuck around to watch their silly coaches try to swim fast. What this meant was that there were a few hundred spectators packed into Milan High School pool screaming for their coaches. It felt like a High School State meet! So much excitement, the pressure was on! There were a few other Eastern Alumni there as well as some current Eastern Swimmers who coach local club teams. Here were all the people I knew there:

Kyle Begley - EMU 2010
Steven Bowling - EMU 2008
Michael Rowland - EMU 2008
Eric Stanczyk - EMU 2006
Ashley Durand - EMU 2009
Andrea Illescas - EMU 2006
Lindsey Hayden - EMU 2009
The relay went great, I think we got 2nd or 3rd out of 14 or so teams! I lead off in a 21.54. It was a blast! All the kids cheering made it seem like we REALLY needed that win! Thanks to Sarah for the invite!
