Trials Article
My friend James sent me a good article:
http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2008/06/20/phelps-looks-to-make-olympic-history/
Although it's mostly about Phelps, it has a great part about the an athlete who got 3rd at the 2004 Olympic Trials:
The U.S. Olympic Trials have been called one of the fastest meets in the world. Case in point, in 2004 Eric Shanteau finished third behind fellow Americans Phelps and Ryan Lochte in the 200 individual medley (IM). Shanteau didn't get to go to the Games in Athens and all but disappeared into swimming obscurity. If Shanteau had been in any other country, and if it weren't for Lochte and Phelps, he would have picked up a bronze medal in the event. In the swimming world they say that an athlete who doesn't make it past the U.S. Trials isn't slow, he just needs to swim for another country. |
This meet really will be one of the fastest, if not THE fastest swim meets ever. I can't wait!
