I needed that!

Posted by Kevin Doak on Thursday at: 1:11am (March 11th, 2010)
For the last week now I've been training back at EMU. Its revolutionized my work ethic and given me some much needed confidence in my swimming. Today I was in the pool at the same time as a few EMU swimmers who have just finished up their big conference meet. A few of them put on some tech suits from last season and jumped in for some time trials long course meters. I had swam about 1,200 meters and was warmed up just as I received a challenge from one of the swimmers to race a 50 meter fly.

Like Night and Day

I've often discussed how much a nice facility meant to my training. Lately I've realized how much this opinion has to do with my current training situation.

MAC Championship Meet 100 Back Record Broken

Posted by Kevin Doak on Monday at: 4:55am (March 8th, 2010)
I was onsite at EMU for the MAC meet this past weekend and watched my 100 Back Championship Record of 48.51 DOMINATED by a swimmer from Missouri State, Roko Simunic. He swam a fantastic race at 47.67. He took out the first half of his race exactly as I did with a high 22.xx but really turned up the heat on the 2nd 50 yards. He broke the Meet Record, Pool Record and Conference Record. It was a really impressive swim, Congrats Roko!

The Rut I'm In

Posted by Kevin Doak on Tuesday at: 4:45am (March 2nd, 2010)
I wish I had better swimming related news to blog about. I'm disappointed to report that to compare my swimming to the last few years, I've fallen off quite a bit.

A few quick facts...

Hurtin'

Posted by Kevin Doak on Thursday at: 3:22am (February 25th, 2010)
I began week 5 of the P90X and its been rough. My schedule has been making it extra hard to get in he pool lately, I might only make it in 4 days this week due to pool closings.

Other than the crazy schedule, training has been going great, I'm feeling stronger and I notice more muscle definition lately.

Time to go swim!

1/3rd done with P90X

Posted by Kevin Doak on Tuesday at: 8:36am (February 23rd, 2010)
It's been slow going with the training lately, just so much going on. I've been getting in the pool 5 days a week and P90X a few times a week, at this rate I might finish the 90 program shortly before 2011.

I picked up a high speed camera last week which enables me to do super slow motion video at 210 frames a second, I've had plenty of fun with it already. Doing starts in slow motion is a great learning experience!

Hoping to train at EMU today :)

Local Hero Saves 12 Scuba Divers!

Posted by Kevin Doak on Wednesday at: 9:20am (February 17th, 2010)
Perhaps it's tacky, however... I'm the hero today. Dare I say local legend.

At the end of my practice tonight the fire alarm was triggered in the building. The lifeguard calmly directed me to exit the pool. I was on my way out when I realized that 12 scuba divers were still diving down at the bottom of the deep end. These poor souls were perhaps only hours away from being burned to a crisp at the bottom of the pool unless I took immediate action!
