153 Workouts, 1 Day
Posted by Kevin Doak on Monday at: 4:57am (June 15th, 2009)
I woke up and did a 1 hour P90X legs and back workout to begin great Sunday! It was a beautiful morning so I headed to Fuller Pool for an outdoor swim. The pool opened at 11am for lap swimming and I was there shortly after. There were 8 long course lanes and 8 people, it stayed that way the entire time I was swimming. When I got in, I noticed my good friend Jim Pogue was swimming right next to me. Jim is active in the Masters community and a very good swimmer. To my other side I noticed a fast swimmer I couldn't identify.

13First Double Day in a long time!
Posted by Kevin Doak on Saturday at: 12:13am (June 13th, 2009)
I did two swim practices today, the first time in a long time. Commonly referred to as "doing doubles", which I haven't had time for in my schedule for a long time. It felt great to swim that much in a day, however, my second practice was noticeably slower than the first.
We did quite a few 200m race pace 50's this afternoon, I was holding 30-33's on them. I wanted to be much faster but I was quite worn out. Our kicking set after warmup was fantastic. Right up my alley!
3 Times Through:
200 @ 4:00 Casual Kicking
2x100 @1:50 No Board Negative Split

12Beautiful morning for a swim
Posted by Kevin Doak on Friday at: 2:01pm (June 12th, 2009)
Today I woke up early and swam to make up for my malnourished practice yesterday afternoon. What a great way to start the day! I've been so busy and up so late that morning practices haven't been in the cards for quite some time. The swimmers and coaches were understandably surprised to see me there.

11Shaky at Practice
Posted by Kevin Doak on Thursday at: 9:28pm (June 11th, 2009)
I got in a mere 1,500 meters before sending myself home today. I forgot to eat 2 hours before practice and by the time I remembered it was too close to my training. I was feeling pretty shaky by the time warmup ended and I called it a day. I'll do P90X tonight and go to morning practice tomorrow to make up for my missed workout.
I felt kind of pathetic giving up in front of everybody but I know what's best for my body. Lesson learned.

10Worlds Largest Pool makes it official
Posted by Kevin Doak on Wednesday at: 3:17am (June 10th, 2009)
After unintentionally taking Saturday, Sunday and Monday off all forms of workouts I was back in the pool today for a good sprint workout. After doing Yoga last night I was a little sore today. I have to say I'm kinda hooked on the Yoga. It's now my favorite dryland workout. I still really struggle with some of the postures, but I'm getting much better at it across the board.

As much as I like sharing my swimming experiences with friends and family, this blog is also a great tool for me to keep track of my training and health. Here's a little health rundown:

6Just can't make 6 days!
Posted by Kevin Doak on Saturday at: 8:47pm (June 6th, 2009)
I was on a roll there. 5 days straight in the pool and this morning missed my alarm and couldn't make it to practice in time. I finally did Kempo X last night which put me back on track with my dryland workouts. I may swim tomorrow to make up for today if I can. Tonight is Yoga!

6Lake Orion Picture
Posted by Kevin Doak on Saturday at: 2:11pm (June 6th, 2009)
I just dug up this photo from January 2008. The first Masters Meet at Lake Orion High School. I broke the pool record in the 100 Backstroke with a 51.22 (only to break it a year later with a 49.84). If I remember correctly, the local paper wrote a little article about the meet and mentioned my name. It was a great honor and the meet was great press for USMS!

6New Little Website Addition
Posted by Kevin Doak on Saturday at: 4:51am (June 6th, 2009)
I just added a "Current Training" blurb to the left of this window, I'll update it every month or so with my latest workout regiment so the folks who don't read this frequently (Gasp!) can quickly find out what I've been up to. As always, thanks for reading!

5Crazy Schedule
Posted by Kevin Doak on Friday at: 6:20pm (June 5th, 2009)
I never got to do the Kempo X last night, my schedule has just been insane. I really want to finish a full week of swimming. This will be my first week of making all 6 days in the pool (if all goes well). The last few weeks something always comes up and I miss a practice. I've yet to make it a week of 12 practices (6 swim, 6 dryland). I've missed 3 days of P90X this week alone. I really need to get back on track. I can tell how much better I feel in the pool when I don't do P90X, it's really noticeable in fact.
